Stop in Houston...apparently somebody was really tired ;-)
Arrival in Cancun...luckily we had two Spanish native speaker because with my Spanish it was hard to negociate and they definitely wanted to cheat on me.
This is how it looks like in front of our hotel

Just down the beach...Spring Break!!!
On the way to Chitchen Itza, we stopped by some plantages. Here you can see plants out of which Tequilla is made.
The really most impressing part of the Cancun trip....the Mayan ruins of Chitchen Itza. On one day of the year there is a shadowfalling through the upper window of the temple, creating a shadow down the stairs shaped like a snake, this happens at the start of spring(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ChichenItzaEquinox.jpg)...it is so fascinating what the Mayans already knew about astronomy. So the temple was actually not a temple, but 'just' a building telling you the different seasons of the year. The builiding you can see left of the big temple, once a year the sun rises directly through the columns on top of the building...impressive!
And the Mayans already played kind of soccer directly here. In this stadium directly next to the temple, they played with a ball which was also sometimes burning and tried to throw/shoot it through the rings at the side of the wall (which you can see on the lower picture). The winner was the hero of course, and as an honor, he got sacrified to the gods (that means he probably died painfully). What is really funny, they has two referees who were on the opposite side of the field and communicated by shouting against their wall they were standing at. The players on the field could not hear what they were saying but the other referee could here is clearly...and this built on purpose by the Mayans...amazing!
Some of our big group...from left to right: French, German, German, French, Spanish, Australian
